June sees larger-scale orchestral music return, with Ryan Wigglesworth conducting Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No 2 and Dvořák’s Symphony No 8 (4 June, 1pm).

Our last ‘Bach the European’ concert of the academic year is led by John Butt, performing JS Bach’s music alongside composers from his extended family (27 June, 12 noon).

Trevor Pinnock returns to conduct Mozart’s ‘Paris’ Symphony No 31 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 2 in B flat, Op 19, with Leeds International Piano Competition finalist Ariel Lanyi as soloist (18 June, 1pm).

Continuing our partnership with the Czech Philharmonic, Josef Špaček directs a concert with the Sainsbury Royal Academy Soloists of Janáček and Tchaikovsky (25 June, 1pm).

This term, the Summer Piano Festival returns in an online format, with 19 recitals, multimedia concerts and masterclasses across three days (9-11 June).

We are pleased to welcome alumna Eleanor Alberga as this term’s Composer in Residence. The residency begins with an interview with Paul Morley (16 June, 4pm) and concludes with a concert showcasing Alberga’s music, with performances of Shining Gate of Morpheus, Ride Through, No-man’s-land Lullaby and On a Bat’s Back I do Fly.

The Academy Jazz Department ends the summer term in style with its annual Jazz Festival, a series of concerts filmed and released over six nights and streamed in partnership with Jazzwise (5-10 July, 6pm). For this term’s Big Band concert, the Academy celebrates saxophonist Mark Lockheart’s 60th birthday with a programme of his music, live from the Susie Sainsbury Theatre (7 July, 8pm).

In recognition of Pride month, the Academy and Students’ Union present the Seen and Heard festival, recognising composers from groups that are under-represented in classical music (22-23 June).

Building on the successes of the autumn and spring livestreamed seasons, our concerts stay online this summer while the building remains closed to the public. We look forward to welcoming you back to experience our music in person as soon as possible.
